It is necessary for education to remain secular, in that education must value neutrality and the duty to provide unbiased information, the foundation for a student’s formation of knowledge. There is no space in education for the promotion of one religion over another, to the point of censoring the whole truths of ‘unfavourable’ religions. If religions are to be spoken of at all, they are to be expounded neutrally and with the complete absence of judgments, in the truth as far as possible of how they are held and valued by their believers, with the primary aim of relieving ignorance and providing the whole truth of knowledge. Anything else, is petty, narrow-minded and shallow – there is no place in education for the sort of systems, materials, teachers, that would stoop so low as to insult a fellow citizen’s, worse still, a learner’s, beliefs in that way. Let’s say we forget about media; forget about censorships in tv and the press. If our schools and universities are not the places that our young can go to and trust to receive impartial information and with that, the support to explore truths, where else should they turn?
